Jewel Ham
b. 1998; Charlotte, NYC; Lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
Jewel Ham is a multimedia visual artist, curator, and educator interested in using her creative practice as a means of reparation. Driven to encourage Black and brown folks to take up space, she is passionate about increasing arts accessibility within her community, and believes in utilizing artistry as outreach, activism and empowerment.
As a painter, she juxtaposes elements of portraiture and still-life to visually narrate non-physical emotional states. In collaging these elements with careful attention to skin, texture and color, she intends to create a sense of visual empathy between viewers and painted figures.
